Recently, at an NHS England Children and Young Peoples regional celebration event, our youth worker, Luke Purdy, won an award of recognition for his contribution to Youth Work services within the West Midlands. Luke is currently funded through the Dudley Group NHS Charity.
Luke started the Youth Work service 16 months ago and has been improving and growing the service ever since. It is now a highly valued service by all professionals that refer to him and is hugely important for the young people and the families that work with Luke.
Luke supports young people living with long term health conditions and he has presented at regional events and meetings to showcase and advocate for the necessity of the Youth Work role within health services.
Luke has been outstanding in his approach to engaging young people in Dudley. He has gone over and above the expected remit of his role to ensure young people have a better experience of transition, ensuring the young people are not only heard but that the leaders and decision makers within the Trust listen to and take the message young people are giving him seriously. Not content with that, Luke has also engaged well with regional colleagues including a previous nursing directorate event and worked tirelessly to produce robust evidence to demonstrate the impact he is having both to the young people themselves and to the Trust.
Congratulations to Luke!
