The Dudley Group NHS Charity has officially launched a series of newly refurbished staff wellbeing rooms across Russells Hall Hospital, made possible through a £121,000 grant from NHS Charities Together’s Stage 3 Covid-19 Recovery Grants Fund.
Wellbeing rooms in the Emergency, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Elective Surgery Hub, Gynaecology, Respiratory and Renal departments have been transformed into calm, welcoming and restorative spaces, designed to support the physical and emotional wellbeing of both clinical and non-clinical staff.
The launch on 20th January was attended by Diane Wake, group chief executive, Karen Kelly, chief operating officer and deputy chief executive and Ellie Orton OBE, chief executive of NHS Charities Together. Guests toured the refurbished areas and officially marked the openings.
The project was delivered by a multidisciplinary working group with strong executive oversight and significant staff involvement throughout. Teams were actively engaged in choosing décor, furniture and artwork to ensure the spaces genuinely met their needs.
The project was shaped by staff across the Trust, with multiple applications submitted. Following site visits and scoring by Charity, Wellbeing and Estates teams, seven rooms were selected for refurbishment. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with staff valuing the calm, uncluttered environments, comfortable modern furnishings and convenient spaces to rest, eat and connect with colleagues.
