Check out our inspirational stories of supporters that have made a difference.
Our fantastic fundraisers
Sit back, relax and have a read through the inspirational stories of our fantastic fundraisers going above and beyond for their local NHS charity.
Lee Meacham
Lee Meacham has raised an incredible £2,595 for our Dudley Group NHS Charity. He ran the TCS London Marathon 2024 in memory of his friend, Grant Clifford who passed away six years ago at Russells Hall Hospital, which is part of The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. Grant had also worked at the hospital for a number of years.
Lee raised funds to support the Paediatric Emergency Department. Over the last few years, Grant’s family and friends have fundraised and supported the creation of an adolescent room in the department, and Lee wants to continue to keep Grant’s legacy alive by continuing to fundraise for the same department. We are thankful for the continuous fundraising and support.
Lynsey Morris
Lynsey Morris, a nurse in our Emergency Department and sister to Grant Clifford, raised over £750 in memory of her brother. She overcame her fear of heights and took part in a Skydive as she knew he was watching over her and would be proud of her for taking part.
The proceeds from Lynsey’s Skydive went towards a refurbishment of Grant’s Room – a breakout space for children within the Children’s Emergency Department.
John Langford and Pete Wain
John Langford and Pete Wain raised an incredible £560 for the Georgina Unit at Russells Hall Hospital, in memory of their friend David, who sadly passed away last December.
David was a close friend who they used to write and play music with, so they decided to do a charity CD of the songs they had written together to raise money for Prostate Cancer.
They also held a memorial musical event at the Cross Inn in Kinver, where David started an Open Mic night a few years back and they have since inherited the event. It was well attended by loads of local musicians, as David was a very much respected musician in the local area.
Local Stourbridge charity donates to Trust charity
Stourbridge Ileostomy Association is a small local charity and support group for people that have undergone ostomy surgery. The charity has worked closely with Dr Anthony Kawesha, a consultant and colorectal surgeon at Russells Hall Hospital, who identified the need for a specialist rehabilitation chair on ward B4.
The chair allows patients that have undergone extensive colorectal and abdominal surgery to receive active intense therapy. It also allows those patients to have use of the chair to be moved around the hospital away from the ward environment as part of their recovery.
Stourbridge Ileostomy Association, in collaboration with the national Ileostomy and Internal Pouch Association matched funding scheme, kindly donated £4,500 to the Dudley Group NHS Charity’s charitable fund for B4 to help towards the cost of the chair which the ward is now utilising.
George Green Solicitors
The staff at George Green Solicitors have raised a grand total of £6,730 for the Baby Bereavement Campaign during their recent charity partnership.
We are very grateful to local companies supporting our charity and it was good to see how involved their staff were in their fundraising activities. Most donned their festive tops on Christmas Jumper Day and even held a tombola at Russells Hall Hospital. In July 2023, a group of fourteen colleagues also took on the 21-mile Jurassic Coast Path.
Joan Bowen and family
Joan Bowen and family donated an incredible £2,100 for the C4 Georgina Ward, which they raised from organising a raffle and from donations from their JustGiving page. Daughter-in-law Andrea Bowen and family wanted to show their appreciation for the treatment and care given to Joan Bowen following her diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in August 2023. There were some amazing prizes, and we are grateful for the time and effort that was put in by the loving family.
In memory of Neil Morris
The family and friends of patient Neil Alexander Morris, who sadly passed away in November 2023, donated an amazing £700 to the Learning Disability Team. Neil’s family generously requested that the donations from his funeral were made to the Learning Disability Team, intended to help bring a little joy to the lives of patients like Neil, to help make their hospital stay more comfortable. He was a well-known character in the Dudley borough, who loved nothing more than to chat, laugh and joke with people, and take part in activities such as bingo or karaoke. The team had the pleasure of working with him during his hospital admissions. Neil was an incredible brother, uncle and friend, who is missed by so many people.
